PERSON · STARLIGHT
Ramakrishna Paramahamsa
Recorded name:
Sri Ramakrishna was a nineteenth-century Bengali religious teacher who discussed spiritual practice and different religious traditions through questions, answers, and parables.
Ramakrishna's teachings circulated mainly through dialogues with disciples and visitors. He left no writings of his own; Mahendranath Gupta compiled a Bengali dialogue collection, Kathamrita, from records, and English translations appeared later. These texts preserve questions and answers in particular settings while also reflecting the selections of recorders and editors. The religious and social-service organizations later established by his disciples have their own histories of development.

ASSESSMENT SCOPEWhat this score covers
All included contribution titles and notes are available in English. The complete original text remains available in Chinese; both editions use the same scores and source links.
Uncovered contributions and unresolved harms are not treated as zero. This is not a complete assessment of a lifetime.
1 included contribution has incomplete evidence; the relevant gap appears with that contribution.
Original scope note
This research record currently includes 1 outcome within a limited scope; M and attribution shares are revisable judgments. Uncovered content and negative effects not yet clarified are not treated as zero; specific gaps appear in the item-by-item explanations.
CALCULATIONHow the score is calculated
Q = 10^(M/2) − 1; Lᵢ = aᵢ × Qᵢ; L = Σ Lᵢ; S = 2 × log₁₀(1 + L).
M is an outcome’s assessed magnitude and a is the person’s allocated share. A standalone score is only a per-item reference; the attributed light from distinct contributions is what can be combined.
SCORE DETAILS
1 evaluated contributions
M is the assessed magnitude of an outcome; attribution is the person’s share of credit. Attributed light can be added. The standalone score is only a per-item reference and must not be added across rows.

Record year1882–1942
summaryForms a researchable oral corpus through extensive contextualized Q&A, parables, and cross-traditional explanations, preserved by Gupta as a text with dates and situational contexts of individuals.
M rationaleM5.5 assesses the documented outcome of interpreting dialogues and preserving texts, not the truth of religious revelations. Academic abstracts support the synthesis of Vedanta, Tantra and other traditions. The South Asianist identifies Ramakrishna as an oral teacher and Gupta as responsible for compilation and publication; Ramakrishna therefore receives only one-quarter of the credit.
attribution rationaleRamakrishna .25, Gupta .30, dialogue participants .10, religious prehistory .15, translators .08, publication chain .05, unresolved .07.

overlap boundaryThe recordable dialogues from 1882–1886 and the five-volume Kathamrita from 1902–1932, up to the major English translations by 1942, represent the oral-to-text final state; the content scope includes cross-traditional interpretations such as Vedanta and Tantra. Excludes religious truth value, unrecorded private experiences, Vivekananda's independent philosophy, and the Ramakrishna Mission's later social services.
Evidence gapsNot verified volume-by-volume against the Bengali original, Gupta's diaries, and English translation edits. The historical context of cross-traditional practices and the voices of female dialogue participants still require non-sectarian historical sources.
