Barrios participated for many years in the Siglo XX miners' Housewives' Committee and took part in the 1977–1978 hunger strike for amnesty and union rights. She met Viezzer at an International Women's Year event, and together they turned mining-community life and organizing experience into oral testimony. Committee members, unions, supporters, and editorial collaborators each had specific labor; it cannot all be assigned to one representative figure.
