Kerim Kerimov

Recorded name:

Kerim Kerimov was a Soviet space-program leader who chaired the State Commission for crewed flight over many years.

From 1966 to 1991, Kerimov chaired the State Commission for crewed flight, participating in supervision and launch coordination for Soyuz spacecraft and missions leading to the Salyut and Mir space stations. The Commission had to bring together information from design bureaus, manufacturing divisions, launch sites, and flight operations to make collective review and release decisions. Tensions among mission schedules, technical readiness, and crew safety are important context for this work.

ASSESSMENT SCOPE

What this score covers

All included contribution titles and notes are available in English. The complete original text remains available in Chinese; both editions use the same scores and source links.

Uncovered contributions and unresolved harms are not treated as zero. This is not a complete assessment of a lifetime.

1 included contribution has incomplete evidence; the relevant gap appears with that contribution.

Original scope note

This research record currently includes 1 outcome within a limited scope; M and attribution shares are revisable judgments. Uncovered content and negative effects not yet clarified are not treated as zero; specific gaps appear in the item-by-item explanations.

CALCULATION

How the score is calculated

Q = 10^(M/2) − 1; Lᵢ = aᵢ × Qᵢ; L = Σ Lᵢ; S = 2 × log₁₀(1 + L).

M is an outcome’s assessed magnitude and a is the person’s allocated share. A standalone score is only a per-item reference; the attributed light from distinct contributions is what can be combined.

Record year1966–1991

summaryMaintained collective flight-authorization and coordination interfaces across design bureaus, manufacturing, launch sites, and flight operations through a twenty-five-year crewed-flight sequence; this is not equivalent to the engineering design of any generation of space station or spacecraft.

M rationaleNASA's history does more than establish the office held: it gives Kerimov's tenure as 1966–1991 and states that he oversaw nearly all Soviet crewed missions, including Soyuz, Salyut, and Mir, while 1971 meeting records provide concrete evidence of chairing, agenda-setting, and convening. M5.7 assesses sustained cross-program flight authorization and coordination services, excluding the Almaz military route and specific engineering design; compared with the earlier 1966–1971 M5.2, its value reflects twenty years of added verifiable mission service within the scope rather than accumulation by tenure or mission count.

attribution rationaleKerimov .15; commission .21; mission-specific engineering departments .25; general design, manufacturing, launch, and operations .17; prior development .10; unresolved .12.

overlap boundaryFrom 1966–1991, the State Commission for Crewed Flight provided flight authorization, oversight, and inter-agency coordination for Soyuz test flights and Soyuz launches to Salyut and Mir; the 1971 meeting is a concrete action example. Excludes some Soyuz-T, all military Almaz missions, spacecraft, rocket, and space-station design and manufacturing, in-orbit research content, and the entire Soviet space program.

Evidence gapsVoting, safety objections, and the chair's actions for individual Salyut/Mir missions have not been fully established; the current estimate is bounded by NASA's stated oversight scope and the 1971 example. NASA offers a U.S. historical-research and annotated-translation perspective; original commission records are needed to cross-check Soyuz-T exceptions and particular responsibilities.
